Abstract

The Clean Air Act (1970, 1977, 1990) imposed by the US Federal Government combined with state and local regulatory actions have steadily driven down pollutant emission limits from industrial natural gas reciprocating internal combustion engines. These limits may apply to existing or new engines. In response numerous studies to understand pollutant emission formation and to mitigate emissions have been carried out. This presentation provides an overview of pollutant emissions formation and mitigation strategies and presents detailed studies performed at the Colorado State University Engines and Energy Conversion Laboratory.
