Nanotechnology for Potential Energy Applications

Concerns about the climate change due to the emissions of greenhouse gases, and the projected decline in fossil fuel production have put energy as the single most important problem facing humanity in the next fifty years. Securing clean, affordable energy for the long term is becoming one of the biggest challenges in the world. Nanotechnology is expected to play a significant role in revitalizing the traditional energy industries and stimulating the emerging renewable energy industries. This seminar series will outline the potentialities of nanotechnology and focus on its applications in flow and heat transfer field, applicable to a range of energy sectors. It will include i) overview of nanotechnology for energy applications, ii) nanofluids technology: from fundamentals to applications; and iii) nanotechnology in oil and gas industries: an emerging field.

文东升教授简介:

文东升教授(Professor Dongsheng Wen)在牛津大学(University of Oxford)获得博士学位,在英国利兹大学(University of Leeds)作为研究员进行了两年的研究后,进入英国皇后玛丽学院(Queen Mary University of London)任教,3年后获得了“Reader”职称,并分别作为副负责人和代理负责人指导两个课题组的研究(the Functional Materials Research Group & the Modeling and Simulation Research Group),同时被聘任为两个高科技公司的科技顾问(Dearman Engine Company & Highview Power Storage Ltd.)。2013年6月,任利兹大学教授,在环境与材料过程工程学院任教,被聘任为石油工程方向首席教授(Professor and Chair in Petroleum Engineering, School of Process Environmental and Materials Engineering),并加入了利兹大学石油工程和地质综合中心执行管理委员会(Executive Management Committee, Centre of Integrated Petroleum Engineering and Geosciences)。

文东升教授是英国皇家化学学会会士,国际能源协会会士以及国际纳米技术协会会士,英国注册工程师,中国化学学会英国分会理事长并曾任英国华人化学化工学会主席与黔英能源中心主任,目前是哈尔滨工业大学、中国石油大学(北京)、贵州大学、华北电力大学、上海理工大学等多所大学的客座、荣誉教授。文东升教授还是若干高水平杂志和期刊的客座编辑和编委会成员(Applied Thermal Engineering、J. Chemical Technology and Biotechnology、Int. J. Nanoparticles等)。
